VINCI Energies won the electrical engineering contracts on the project to build the high-speed rail line between Tangier and Casablanca.
The 200 km long Tangier—Casablanca line enables people to travel between the two cities in just 2 hours 10 minutes, instead of the 4 hours 45 minutes it previously took. Morocco developed the project to service the growth in passenger numbers, speed up rail traffic between Tangier and Casablanca and facilitate the expansion of Tangier as an economic hub.
Through its Mobility and VINCI Energies subsidiaries in Morocco, in a consortium with Systra, VINCI Energies was awarded the electrical engineering contracts. The consortium designed and built two 225 kV/2×25 kV electrical substations with four 40 MVA transformers and eleven feeder substations (2×25 kV) with thirteen 10 MVA autotransformers. At the same time, specific operational safety engineering services were also provided.
The high-speed train will travel at speeds of 320 km/h between Tangier and Kenitra, north of Rabat, and between 160 and 180 km/h along the rest of the route.
Six million passengers are expected to travel on the line every year.
