The RET has chosen Omexom for the engineering and construction of the energy supply for the Zero Emission Buses in the Rotterdam region.
For public transport in the Netherlands, as part of the energy transition, it is compulsory that diesel buses may no longer be purchased as of 2025 and that by 2030 all buses must be electric or powered by another sustainable solution.
The facility consists of four compact stations and three purchase stations that will provide power to the charging stations for the Zero Emission Buses.

In order to be able to charge electric buses, charging facilities need to be installed at various locations in the region, for which medium voltage connections are required. The activities consist of: project management, engineering, site management and assembly, purchasing, testing, commissioning and civil engineering. This includes the housing of the compact stations for the connection. In a compact station, 10,000 or 23,000 volts of alternating current from the ordinary electricity grid is converted via transformers into 400 volts of alternating current for the buses. The contract also includes all ancillary installations for this energy supply. The fully remote-controlled stations will be located at the Capelsebrug and Herenwaard bus stops and at the RET bus stops Industrieweg (Krimpen aan den IJssel) and Sluisjesdijk (Rotterdam South).
